Welcome our new correspondents, Marjorie & Whitney!
Meet the new voices joining the Get Together podcast
In July, we started a search for a new person to join our podcast team who could help expand the stories we tell on the Get Together podcast.
We were in awe of the 117 passionate people who applied. Our team reviewed each application, learning from them about hundreds of new communities, leaders, and stories of extraordinary collective work happening in the world.
We were so overwhelmed by the talented applicants this program received that we decided to bring on not one but two Get Together correspondents.
Today we’re excited to introduce them to you.
Meet Marjorie Anderson and Whitney Ogutu!
Marjorie Anderson
Background: Marjorie has spent the last seven years building the online community at Project Management Institute. She has imparted her wisdom of online community management for a not-for profit membership association on her blog, Community by Association.
Fun Facts: In Marjorie’s own words, she is “a proud ISTJ who firmly believes the Oxford comma is not dead.” She loves talking community and good memes. Coffee helps her do the adulting.
Favorite episode: Hector Espinal of WRU Crew
“Hector’s story exemplifies the power that lies in community to help people achieve things they didn't think were possible, especially when he talks about the fact that running was not something you normally saw in Washington Heights.
He made what felt inaccessible or out of the norm, normal and fun. The power of community to enable people to step out and do something new or meet people they never would have known otherwise. That feels like the overarching lesson for me.”
Whitney Ogutu
Background: Whitney is the Community Engagement and Programs Lead at Mettā Nairobi, a community, and innovation hub that supports startups, entrepreneurs & innovators. She is passionate about investing in human potential and capability through community building and engagement. She has helped set up the community around Baraza Media Lab, an innovation hub for the media community.
Fun Facts: Whitney’s dad got her name from Whitney Houston. (Yes, our Whitney sings too!). Outside work hours, she can be found tinkering with code or knee-deep in a good book.
Favorite episode: Gavin Pretor-Pinney of The Cloud Appreciation Society
“I was inspired by how Gavin created a huge community of paying members out of the love for clouds. Clouds seem very ordinary and, in some ways, odd to an outsider.
The inspiration, to me, is finding meaning and satisfaction from life's simple pleasures and creating a community for similar individuals to plug in and participate.”
